Invisible

One of the best pranks I have ever seen. It's in German so I'll explain first. A restroom, a mirror, and a young woman putting on make-up. Only the mirror is not a real mirror, but a sheet of glass.

The restroom on the other side is exactly the same but build in reflection. And the young lady is not alone, on the other side of the sheet of glass is her twin sister.

Cincinnati, As I See It

Cincinnati, As I See It
Via Cincinnati, As I See It - One of the best Cinci picture sites around. Great photography of the Tri-State area. I'd love to make posters out of some of these picts. If you wanna get a sense of what life in Cincinnati is like, You probably won't find a better site. As a photographer with a way to expensive camera..I gotta say..These pictures rock. And I can only hope that one day my images will be half as good as some of these.

Earthquake Experts Turn to History for Guidance

Earthquake Experts Turn to History for Guidance
Damage in Jerusalem's Old City following a July 11, 1927, earthquake. One of the first earthquakes on the Dead Sea Fault to be recorded by modern seismographic techniques, it reached 6.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was in the northern part of the Dead Sea. Photo credit: American Colony Hotel, American Colony Collection.
The best seismologists in the world don't know when the next big earthquake will hit. But a Tel Aviv University geologist suggests that earthquake patterns recorded in historical documents of Middle Eastern countries indicate that the region's next significant quake is long overdue.

A major quake of magnitude seven on the Richter scale in the politically-fragile region of the Middle East could have dire consequences for precious holy sites and even world peace, says Tel Aviv University geologist Dr. Shmulik Marco. In light of this imminent danger, Marco, from the school's Department of Geophysics and Planetary Sciences, has taken an historical approach to earthquake forecasting by using ancient records from the Vatican and other religious sources in his assessment. The past holds the key to the future, he says.

"All of us in the region should be worried," explains Marco, who dedicates his career to piecing together ancient clues.

Based on the translations of hundreds of documents -- some of the originals of which he assumes reside in Vatican vaults -- Marco has helped determine that a series of devastating earthquakes have hit the Holy Land over the last two thousand years. The major ones were recorded along the Jordan Valley in the years 31 B.C.E., 363 C.E., 749 C.E., and 1033 C.E. "So roughly," warns Marco, "we are talking about an interval of every 400 years. If we follow the patterns of nature, a major quake should be expected any time because almost a whole millennium has passed since the last strong earthquake of 1033".........

Wrong Airport, Safe Landing

Wrong Airport, Safe Landing
My first view of Hershey, PA, was from the air. I was flying a Cessna C-172 from Toronto Island Airport along with three other pilots, all but one newly licensed. Our lone female pilot had flown the plane from Toronto to Buffalo, where we were required to check in with customs before continuing. My turn came next; an amateur nervously negotiating the multiple taxiways of a busy international airport he'd never seen before. The Hershey leg was pleasant enough but I was relying on an experienced pilot in the right seat who was handling the navigation chores. He forgot to explain that there were two airports in Hershey, close together. Suddenly he yelled "no.... not that one, this one!" I immediately put the Cessna into a tight J-turn, hardly the accepted way to enter a circuit, but all went well and when we touched down smoothly our little crew gave me a round of applause. Or maybe it was a sigh of relief.

Were we to make the same flight on October 13, 2007, we might see something like the above, a huge field full of collector cars in the nation's largest show, swap meet, and flea market, presented by the Hershey Region of the AACA. I've featured it in a previous blog so this time I'd like to draw your attention to an associated event that's as unusual as my landing. RM Auctions will be conducting a "Night at the Museum" charity auction fund raiser for the AACA Museum where attendees can bid on one-of-a-kind travel packages to major automotive events, behind-the-scenes-tours, "collector lunches", fine art and automobilia. Guest speakers include personalities from the collecting and motorsport communities. RM is asking for your assistance in supporting this worthy cause. Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site

Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site
Pennsylvania Avenue is among the world's most famous streets. It is known the world over as the heart of the Nation's Capital. America's history has marched, paraded, promenaded, and protested its way up and down the Avenue. It is no wonder that Pennsylvania Avenue is called the "America's Main Street." The Avenue is more than just another city street; it is, rather, America's Ceremonial Way.

White Nights in Europe

White Nights in Europe
Paris started it all back in 2002 with Nuit Blanche. Its success led to the organization of Operation "European Notti Bianche". And now, 4 other cities are organizing their own White Nights in Europe: Rome, Riga, Brussels and Madrid.

What exactly can you expect during these White Night festivals?

It's mainly a cultural event held between the end of summer and the beginning of Autumn. It starts at sunset and the party continues on until the sun rises the next day. Yes, it's a whole night affair!

You can expect art exhibitions, music, theatre and performances. Restaurants, museums and shops in the area are also open during this all-nighter. The city center will be closed to traffic during this time so you have to take public transportation.

For those on a budget, you'd be happy to know that admission is FREE on all locations organized by the European Notti Bianche. Plus, public transportation is available all night and will only set you back around 1€.

Unfortunately, Riga had theirs last weekend. It's not too late, though. You can still join this year's White Night in other European cities:........

Get Into the Chocolate Groove in NYC's Cocoa Bar !

Get Into the Chocolate Groove in NYC's Cocoa Bar !
I love chocolate! I think I am part of a cadre of chocolate junkies and lucky me, I found one of the PERFECT spots for chocoholoics in New York's Lower East Side (affectionately known as LES) near Tribeca below Houston St. In this adorable little 'hood, is this cute little "internet cafe" meets bar that it is the perfect place for a coffee for a match.com meeting, a first date, second date, I think I really like her date, or after the movie or before you hit the club date. ( enough reasons to go there) -The Cocoa Bar

This bar is the brainchild of wner and innovator Liat Cohen-Reeis opened her second cocoa bar location on Clinton with just a beer and wine license to make fruity cocktails that are so intoxicatingly wonderful that one wonders why you bother going anywhere else. Cocoa Bar was the first chocolate and wine bar and wine bar to open in NYC two years ago but now is creative force in mixology. Summoning bartenders from all over the
city to help create Liat's now famous specialty cocktails, these luscious drinks consist of almost every ingredient imaginable, other than hard liquor. Each of these amazing cocktails has been ingeniously prepared with premium
sake and wine bases.

Get ready for the Blueberry and Black Pepper Mojito- made premium sake, mint, blueberries and a hint of black pepper. This is a stunner! It's to die for!!
